Okay so i drive to my old mans house to change my tires, get the winters off and put the summers on. Go to leave... yay my car won't start.

I turn my car to start and i hear the fuel pump doing it's 2 second prime, lights come on and it does nothing. Doesn't turn, i hear nothing else...

We checked battery and fuses and they seem fine. Charged the battery just to be safe... no change.

What else to check or narrow down? Coil pack getting sparks to the plugs? Fuel leakdown? The security thing? crank signal issue? or the very rare neutral sensor error thing.

Also on that note does the passlock security issue stop the car from turning over or will it let it start then kill it?

I got tons of tools at my dads but not very many(if any) electronics to test things over then the basic. Any advice on what we can look at would be awesome.

THanks,

By nothing, do you mean not even a click?
or a click but the starter don't turn?

The passlock just cut the fuel injectors, so you would be able to crank, but it would never come to life.

If you hear a click and nothing more, locate the starter, hit it a few time with an hammer, then try to start. chance is that it will. if so the starter need to be serviced.

Great thanks.

I cannot remember if i hear a click. What action would i be taking if i hear no click?

I only know 100% that the fuel pump is trying to pump and stops.

All of this stuff i will have to try tomorrow morning, browsing through all the pages so i am trying to find all the alternatives.

Okay so just an update.

Got it started. Had to turn the car from ON to start about 4 times and it started.

I read around and it 'could' be a bad pressure regulator but would that stop my car from even turning over?

I just need a few alternatives of what to investigate should this happen again?

bad starter solenoid

I agree, thanks.

Where is it located? My car died across the street at a 7-11 and i need it parked in residential till i can pick up a new one. I am not hearing the click from the solenoid.

I heard if you give it a tap it with a hammer, it could start again for a little while before it completely dies. I am going to do a search but if you know phantom that would be great too.

Thanks so much for the help...

Edit. Just trace it from the battery right? Should be on the side of the fender wall right?

the solenoid is on the starter. However there is also a relay that control the solenoid!

the relay could also be bad... if you don't hear a click then it could be the relay. The relay is probably in the fusebox in the hood. I would start by that, locate the fusebox, open, check which one is the starter relay, swap it with a less important relay (ac clutch relay maybe?), and test.

A bad solenoid should do a click (more like a TOC than a click) but no starting. Those solenoid now are used as a dual purpose: push the gear out of the starter into the flywheel. when engaged the contact for the starter is made. if you don't hear the click, then it mean the solenoid isn't pushing the gear, so chance is that it get no power.

Okay i will do that. i checked the starter and basically i gotta boost up the car, remove the oil filter, some other stuff and remove it. Bit too much work for me, i might as well get my machanic to do that.

I will check the fuse relay though tomorrow, i got a couple other 60 fuses in there i can replace it with. Why cant the solenoid be up on the car more accessible?

Well it's not clicking. Swapped the relay with one for rear lights or something, another 60. nothing. I don't know what is bad now. I checked the best i could in a parking lot(where my car was abandoned) and followed the yellow wire and nothing. I don't have an amp tester either to see if it's giving the full power needed. The lights do not dim and the wipers move fine so i am out of ideas.

THanks for the help i am just going to see if my mechanic can take it. Otherwise i am in a parking lot with an AMA certified shop right behind my car.. lol. I could go there.
