While warming up the car with my air on it is fine---once I put the car in reverse to back out the garage with the air on it shuts off. Without the air on the car runs smooth--while on it jerks and shuts off. I have changed the battery--timing belt and pulley Im at like 84000 miles. Why is my air making the car shut off

It's the extra load of the a/c compressor- most every post 90's car is designed with this in mind- they take needed steps to compensate for the extra load, even shut compressor of automatically if necessary (stall-saver algorithm in car computer) -- but for some reason, yours may be drawing more torque then usual....

Not a whole lot you can do- keep an eye on it, turn off a/c when it is critical that engine does not stall. Perhaps a tune-up would help, if not already tried. If you go to an a/c shop, you'll probably get a new compressor, with the description you have used- but be prepared to shuck out big bucks if you go that route.

I have 2003 stratus rt with 3.0 that Idoled good until I turned ac on then it would bog and stall out. Eventually it got so bad That it would run bad at idol without ac on. So i took off throttle body and cleaned lots of dirty buildup out and it has worked fine sence with use of b-12 Chem tool fuel cleaner (from walmart)once every three months or so. Apparently the car can't handle much extra load with build up in it. Maybe start with using fuel cleaner before doing the tear down? If you think that could be the issue. It sounds similar to how my problem started out
