The security light came on about two days ago, went to leave, light was on, car wouldn't start. Got online following advice of others who seemed to have this problem. I changed the ignition lock cylinder and attempted the relearn procedure as told to do so in manual. Still the security light stays on and I can't keep the car running, it turns over and attempts to start then stalls right out. HELP me!!!:banghead:

Do you have any third party immobiliser, alarm, remote start or anything that could influence on the signal?

Do you have a worn out key?

The BCM is what get the signal for the passlock. You might want to look if the connector is oxidated. it is located under the glove box. Remove the kick panel under it and you should be able to reach it.

If it were mine, I'd bypass that security system (Passlock II) using the proper resistor. There are numerous procedures in how to do it on-line. I install remote starters, and do it on all remote start installations as part of the normal procedure- so all it 100% of the time.

Go see someone who installs remotes starters and explain that you want yours bypassed pemanently, they can do it if they want to.

I already replaced the ignition lock cylinder so it's new and new key. I have no other alarm or anything like that on it just the Passlock system, PITA for owners. The BCM seems to be fine, it won't even let me do the relearn procedure so I'm not sure what to do or think at this point. Maybe the PCM? As far as I understand it the BCM just controls like the lights and power switches and the PCM is what controls the engine parts and ignition? Is this correct? I was told to check fuse #37 under the hood that if this fuse goes it can act as a passlock problem so this will be next effort. I've been in contact with a mechanic who is willing to take a look at it for me free of charge, so checking the fuse just may be my last effort before hauling her down to the mechanic. Thanks Guys!

The BCM do more than just light and power switch. it also receive the passlock signal and is the integral part of the passlock. The 3 wires for the passlock (you reconnected it to the new lock cylinder right?) go straight to the BCM, which validate the key. if the key match it send a password to the PCM to enable the fuel injectors.

You say that the BCM is fine, then you say that it won't let you do a relearn. Something is wrong between the user (wrong relearn procedure), the new lock cylinder, the wiring, the connectors at both end and the BCM.

How do you do the relearn?

Welcome to AF jaynjess22 !!
Try this if you havnt gotten it fixed.

Security relearn procedure:

1) Attempt to start the car by turning the key to the Start/Run Position.
2) Observe that the vehicle fails to start and that the security light is illuminated.
3) Release key to the 'ON/Accessory' Position. (DO NOT turn key to the 'off' position.)
4) Allow the vehicle to sit with the key in the 'ON/Accessory' Position for no less than 11 minutes.
5) Turn key to off position and allow the vehicle to remain in the 'OFF' position for no less than 30 seconds.
6) Repeat #1 - #5 for 3 cycles.
7) On 4th attempt, car should start.

NOTE : Since this is a fairly long procedure, I would limit all electrical sources, such as disconnecting headlights, to prevent discharge of battery.

NOTE 2 : It is SAFE to wait LONGER than the allotted time, but it is not safe to wait less time. I.e. 12 minutes instead of 11 minutes should be safe; however, waiting 10 minutes instead of 11 minutes is not safe.
