1993 tercel dies when accelerating from idle

Hi, this is my first post here on this forum, I'll provide as much info as I can. I have 5 speed 1.5L 93 tercel DX which aside from this current problem and some timing issues runs great (does not idle rough at all, burns no oil, and has no loss of power when on the highway). Work done previously to this problem includes new timing kit, new plugs, wires, cap and rotor and air filter, the timing was checked and adjusted and the oil is changed every 5000km's. Since this problem started I've changed the fuel filter, checked for vacuum leaks, cleaned the throttle body, checked the MAP sensor (once retrieved a code for it while stalled, checked out ok), checked the voltage across the circuit opening relay and fuel pump relays, checked the resistance of the ignition coil and inspected the plugs and distributor. All of these check out ok with a possible exception being the coil in which the resistance of the primary coil was very slightly out of range (0.8 ohms, range should be 0.3-0.6 ohms). Was going to replace but was told that with a cheap multimeter and such a small resistance it's probably fine.

Since November last year it's had a problem where after warming up I'll be sitting at a stop light and when I hit the gas and begin to release the clutch it will stall. Sometimes I can feel it's going to stall and prevent it by pressing down on the gas all the way at which point the engine hesitates and then kicks in and the car takes off but it will stall next time I stop. This hesitation will also sometimes happen while driving when I shift between low gears and I then know I will stall next time I stop. After stalling I cannot restart the car for at least 5 minutes and sometimes have to pump the gas and stay on it a bit at first to do so. When I do stall I can smell gas pretty strongly sometimes which obviously seems wrong to me being fuel injected and all though the problem seems to be electrical or a vacuum leak because it doesn't run rough at all or sputter. Also it currently stalls about once a day and only in the city (never stalls while driving on the highway, probably a coincidence), it's gone up to 3 weeks without stalling once while the weather was cold then started stalling again (though it stalls now even when it is cold out).

The car is canadian and has no egr valve, everything looks to be clean and testing properly. Any suggestions for what else I can test or should I begin replacing things? I took it into a shop once and they charged me a lot to basically re-gap my plugs, check my timing and plug in an air temperature sensor that was unplugged, did not fix the problem. My next guess is to try to adjust the IAC valve or test the throttle position sensor and maybe just replace the ignition coil, I'm just getting tired of not finding the problem.

Thank you for any help you can offer and sorry about such a long first post, cheers.
