Those look ok.....just joking :)

Wow:eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

Ahh, man. You can't just post that with out giving us a discription.
If you can give us an overview of how you did them. I heard it talkes like many many layers to do that?

I know one other person here works in Illustrator.
I am currently learning it.

Excellent work.

I am glad you posted your art.

Holy Farve, Man those are nice. The commodore is freakin' sweet and I love the stones under the bel aire. You gotta enjoy the little details. I've been wanting to get into a project like that, I just can't seem to muster up the time to do it. Very well executed. Keep on posting!

thanks for your nice comments guys. here are some comments in answer to your questions:

1. yep i'm australian - haha lotsa commodores in my collection.

2. my current project is for 'expression session' the latest issue of Street Machine magazine where you gotta design a paint job for eric bana's xb falcon coupe. it's 90% complete now and i'll show ya tomorrow.

3. in answer to asanez:

mate, i used to use up to 80 layers on one of these cars! i'm getting better at illustrator and only use around 15 layers these days. the finished file sizes are still damn big at 80-120mb but thats part of using so much detail i guess.

i'm gonna post a step by step guide on how it's done here so watch out for it. I'll also make available simple illustrator files of these cars so you can practice on them if you like ok?

4. what the heck.... here's another car

Cool, I have searched high and low for reference shots of the Ford Falcon (latest body style) like on GT3. Perhaps just maybe you can post some. hee hee.

I have reference shots and plans for doing the famous Falcon Interceptor.

I can't wait to see your step-by-step guide.

Do you see many Skylines on the public roads in Oz?

The main force patrol car is sweet :)

I don't figure out how you can make these cars! I've never tried Illustrator, but is it hard?

yes and no. The program is essitially easy, but to make the cars you have to think backwards. You start from the background and work your way to the foreground. Your also simplifiying the shadows and what not, so it's a different mind set. You also have a lot of control, but it's not like photoshop. For the most part illlustrator is very flat. It takes a lot of time and planning to start getting some nice depth to it.

What you think yellowdoor? Sound right to you?

Holy Cow! Ridin_On_Rails, i couldn't have said it better! i'm doing a demo of vector art at a local arts ferstival and the explanitary posters i have designed have said:

" To work in vector graphics in Illustrator, you need the ability to think backwards and forwards at the same time".

I find the whole secret is light and shadow. i achieve this by using gradients and transparent shapes. basically the whole picture is a bunch of shapes and most has some kind of gradient in it and also something less than 100% transparency.

confused??? unless you have tried illustrator its hard to understand. i'm gonna post a car in it's stripped down form soon so you can see what me and Ridin_on_rails mean ok?

However r_o_r is damn right about one thing --- i have 100% total control over every bit of the picture. so even tho illustrator is difficult to learn (took me 2 years to perfect it) it draws better pics than photoshop

I've been dealing with illustrator for almost 8 years now. I remember the days when there were no layers. Now that was hard work. That's actually how I did my 1933 Harley. It took me some 13+ hours to complete.

If you haven't seen my other post...here are a couple that I have done. Both are pretty old. The harley was done in 1997 and the 56 ford was done in 2000. I've been wanting to do my truck in illustrator, but I just can't seem to find the time.
