Was looking at buying this car and wondering about..well everything. I had a 2000 Pontiac Gran Prix, but totalled it in an accident..loved that car and would have driven it forever. How many miles could I expect out of the Grand Am? Are parts for this car expensive? Any particular problems with this car? Anything I should look at closely before buying? I live in Minnesota, the Gran Prix was a pretty good winter car, is this one too? The one I am looking at has 102,000 miles on it and is $4,250. Thanks in advance.

Like any car some are good and some are bad. I had an 02 Gt sedan... in the snow I felt that car didn't not handle well at all. For a FWD car the backend slid out a lot on me as if i was driving a RWD car. tires I know had some to do with it but even with better tires i found it still light in the rear. mechanically they do well. some of the people on this Forum has passed the 200K mile mark on the original engines. things to watch out for are Lower Intake Manifold leaks which are very common around the 70K+ mile mark. the intake may have already been done on it but i would look into that if you can. Watch the electrical on them! common issues is a bad seal on the tail light causing a short in the taillights, the multifunction switch also can have a short as well but this is for the 2002's or later NOT the 2002.5's (or as it was stated to me that the 02.5's+ shouldnt have that problem) the easiest way to tell the difference on which one it is is by the side view mirrors... if the casing is painted to match the car then its a 02 if its black then its an 02.5. good luck if you decide to purchase!

Way too much money for an 02 GA. with 100,000 on it. you will likely be disappointed going from a GP to a GA in winter

Thanks guys, appreciate the help. Just found this site and love it. Going to go with the Grand Prix again, every mechanic I've spoken with tells me that the engine on those are great.

You will be happier with your choice . Did the mechanics tell you the engines were "bullet proof"? . I love it when they say that haha.

Went with a a 2002 GTP with 83,000 miles on it for 5,500. Carfax was good and I've known the dealer for years. The previous owner did something with the exhaust, so it get's better gas mileage...according to the mechanic. Only had it a week, but feel pretty good about it.

probably changed the catalyser... or removed it. If he put an high flow one it's ok, if he removed it then your car is not road legal as it's poluting too much.
