2004 Grand Am SE Fuel Filter, Injuector or Pump? PLEASE HELP

Ok so I was driving down the road everything just fine and all of a sudden my 2004 Grand AM(SE model with EcoTec 2.2 engine) just stalled out and acted like it wasn't getting gas when I pushed on gas pedal. Naturally there was a cop already pulled off to side of road watching for speeders but he never bothered me, anyways. I flipped my hazard lights on and came to a complete stop and it seemed like the car was still on so I turned it completely off and it restarted right up just fine and been driving seemingly fine ever since without anymore stalls. However when sitting still at idle it does seem to be alot quieter than it use to be and idles around normal idle RPMS. So my question is, was this just by chance a fluke thing of bad puff of gas going through the lines, or could it be something more severe such as bad fuel filter, injector or even the fuel pump going out? THANK FOR ANY AND ALL HELP! :)

- if you could just give more details ie:
-you said that engine did not shut off completely right?
- what was the speed in mph when that happened?
-what was the RPM before that happened and to what RPM did the needle drop when that happened and for how long it remained at that RPM?
-when you pressed the gas pedal did engine rpm increase but vehicle did not gain any speed?

If you could remember more details it would help.

for now you can eliminate: fuel filter for sure.

It could be intermittent loss of power in the ignition system somewhere, also check battery connections, also intermittent or bad connection for fuel pump, it could be also transmission related. That is why more details would help.

I dont remember any of that. I had just started from a stop light though when it happened so I only got up to maybe 25-30 MPH when it started. As for RPMs i have no idea i didnt look but the engine didnt rev up when hitting gas pedal so pretty sure RPMs didnt go up either since it didnt rev the engine.

Drive by wire ?? :wtf:
This isnt rocket science! It's a Grand AM, not an F-16!

Diablo_VT, if it has never done this before I wouldnt worry just yet.

Sometimes when taking off your wheel speed sensor(s) will get an odd reading(possibly bad sensor) and cause traction control to over ride the fuel delivery. Also if you put it in nuetral while moving, and drop it into gear, sometimes that too can mess with the traction control causing no throttle response.

But to just stall randomly for no reason, can be tricky to solve without some thurough testing. And most likly you wouldnt find anything wrong unless something obvious is bad, injector, fuel pump, coil, plugs fauled out, and it could be a cloged fuel filter.

If your fuel filter hasnt been replaced in the last 25-30k miles you might change that, they are cheap, around $15-20.
You might also check fuel pressure and your spark plugs. :2cents:
