Strut Tower Braces

I bought a set of strut tower braces off Ebay and when I installed the front everything went fine until I put the car in reverse. The alternator hits the bar but only in reverse. Could it be a shady brace or do you think my engine is moving too much? Also, I didn't like how the rear brace fit so I used a few washers, I hope that doesn't make a difference. Anybody have any ideas? I have an 02 GA GT 3.4

Using washer will mess up the alignment, I wouln't suggest to do that at all, unless you have a twisted part and you want to patch it because you don't have money to fix it and you won't do any highway and won't use it for a long time... Bolts are sized for the distance it have to cover and all. Beside it could cause other issues due to misaligned stuff.

You could have got a wrong part or ordered the wrong one.

Check for broken motor support too...

Make sure the the front and rear braces arent mixed up. Then make sure the front one doesnt flip over if it has a bend in it to clear the alternator or engine intake or brake fluid res.

If those are ok, then its possible the strut bars were not "direct fit" or a mount is weak, possibley front or rear trans mounts.
If either of the trans mounts are damaged, your engine will rock front to rear more. But it is hard to tell with out the car on a lift to investigate-check the mounts and a real PITA to replace. :uhoh:

Some rear mounts do need a washer or two to clear things back there, and it should NOT mess up the alignment. Just make sure everything is tight. ;)

The front strut brace was the wrong one. I have the correct one and it's working fine. Also, my alignment is perfect.
