99 grand am 3.4, low rpm miss

I have a miss when the car is under 2,000 rpm's and speed is between 40-70 mph, happens in both drive and overdrive. When the miss happens the rpms do not fluctuate. No lights on dash.

Changed fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, transmission fluid and filter.
Spark plugs and plug wires have 55,000 miles on them.
Air filter is clean.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"miss" I assume missfire?

If so, I'ld start at the spark plugs. 55k miles is alot for them you know.

Get the codes read.... if you don't have a reader/scanner autozone or other parts stores usually will read them for you for free.... The codes(s) might point to a specific cylinder; then you could swap plugs/wires/coil packs/ etc to figure out what's wrong.
Hope this helps.

SES don't need to be on for code to be stored...

especially the "intermittent miss" codes. you have to get past a certain number of misses before the warning light is set.

btw, when I got my grand am 2002 se, it had 71000km on it, the spark plugs was dead, causing misfire on cylinder #4.

You said you have 55k miles = 88500km

So it's quite possible.

I don't know why you replaced all of those things first. Misfire point to spark plugs as the #1 suspect.

Fuel filter and pressure regulator... understandable...
Tranny filter and oil can not cause misfire, and do not need to be changed ever under normal circumstances.

At first I thought it was the transmission slipping so that is why I dropped tranny pan to inspect fluid and check bottom of pan for debris. Found no debris and fluid was clean, normal dust on magnet. After changing fluid and filter same condition remained.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I changed spark plugs and plug wires and it corrected my problem.

Glad in your case it was something relatively simple. You don't have to worry about fuel filter for a while either and the FPR. Based on what a number of GA owners have said, the FPR is something that eventually gives trouble so you're good to go there.
