As far as I know the jaguar remotes can be programmed only with transmitter equipment.

I have a 98 XJ8 Vanden Plas and I can not get into Programming mode using the proper instructions. I also can not get the garage door opener button to opertae even thought the light blinks like it is working.
Are these problems related ???

Check your local Jaguar dealer or an independent Jaguar repair shop.

Ok, I always check these great forums for help and I noticed many had problems with XJ8 remote programming. So I decided to join and after feeding off of many usefull tips in the past, thought it's time to pass on some info which came usefull to me, and worked.

The following procedure is tested & worked on a 1999 Jaguar XJ8 and successfully added a Jaguar remote 315 MHz - FCC: K8597T315 - LJA261OAA.

------------------

Note : All transmitters being serviced must be available. If the learning process is carried out without having all the transmitters present, all previous transmitter codes will be overwritten, rendering the missing transmitters inoperable.

Hold headlight flasher back.

Turn ignition key to position 1.

Flash headlights 4 times.

Alarm will enter programming mode.

This will be confirmed by "beeps" from the alarm and flashing led on gearshift.

Program each transmitter (up to 5) by pressing the lock or unlock button on each transmitter once.

The alarm will "honk" when you press the transmitter button.

The alarm must honk 5 times to complete the programming. Therefore, if you are only programming one transmitter you should operate the transmitter 5 times.

If you are programming two transmitters you will operate one transmitter twice, and three times on the other.

For five transmitters you will operate each transmitter once.

Good Luck!

I can't get these instructions to work on my 99 XJ8. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. By position 1, do you me the position in which the radio works? Also, "flash the headlights 4 times"..are you meaning turn the rotating arm 4 times?

My husband just purchased this car a week ago and I'm trying to surprise him by purchasing and programming the remotes. So far, I've had no luck with the programming part.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are some instructions at this web site:

programyourkeys.com

There are some instructions for the XJ8, although they didn't say which years. It's worth a try.
