I have a '90 ford ranger 2wd...a couple of weeks ago, I found a pile of grease under the truck. Shortly after that, when I turn the steering wheel left I hear/feel vibration. I took the wheel off and found a 1/2" tear in the boot of the far left ball joint.

Question: If I replace the ball joint (followed by an alignment, of course) will it stop the vibration?

Hi on your ranger does it have power steering? If its does i would check the fluid level because i havent heard of a vibration at the steering wheel caused by a ball joint when turning before. Is there a kind of growling type noise when you turn the steering wheel?

Thanks for the reply...I will answer your questions first, then I will tell you the solution to my problem.

My ranger does not have power steering (very basic truck).

The problem: When I turned the wheel left it would vibrate, return to straight or turn right the noise would go away.

Solution: Outside wheel bearing. I replaced the inside wheel bearings on both wheels when I did the breaks months ago, but I didn't do the outside (yes, I know foolish mistake...needless to say, it will be my last).
