ok i know i might get some slack about this but i wanted to share this with my friends at AF. i recently joined a "car club" that was started up by some fellow enthusiasts in my local area. now i usually hate car clubs but this one is pretty straight. in fact, we hate to consider ourselves a car club. here's the details:

-10$ a month (goes to finance one person's mod each month, the group elects who gets the mod by a vote)
-2x3in decal on fender (no windsheild banners, etc.)
-prestigious cars only (no saturns/kias)
-access to a lift and garage with technician support
-various trips to the local track, NOPI, HIN, and other car shows (discounted price thru monthly dues!)
-no illegal street racing

there's some more rules to it but that's the general idea. i posted a pic below of the current members. i am the only civic so far, but we have two others nominated who are awaiting a group vote. just wanted to know what you guys think...

i just wanted to get some feedback on it. i know car clubs have a real negative image but this one actually has some motivation to participate. just curious if you guys would've joined if say they had approached you...

Car clubs have been done. Most of em have the same rules and benefits. I admit that you will get noticed more with a club but who wants that? IMO I think crews are whack unless they are one of the old school elites.

emerge
05-11-2003, 10:15 PM
a majority of the clubs around here just sit in parking lots and go out to eat. but since im in this club, i have a chance to get mods quicker and i have access to a garage so that i can work on my car. another thing wrong with other local clubs is RICE. there is one around here called madhouse customs. they have a bunch of tacky cars with unpainted body kits, ridiculous spoilers, and ugly underglow. i like all of the cars in this club though. it also boils down to basics, a group of people with the same interest...

here's the logo (the decal on the car is like 2x3in)

r'tek stands for "racing technology", someone also came up with the alternate idea of "our technology" but that never became official.

Well than, if that's all you guys wanted why call yourselves a club/crew. You don't need a crew for that. All you need are good friends. Little insignificant crews that get started hardly ever last and if you have started a crew the way to get some respect is to have a bunch of bad ass cars, i.e boost, swaps, or show winning cars. If not than you will just get laughed at. I suggest you lay off the crew stickers till you really have something established.

having a badass car ie boost , doesnt gain you respect, if youre an asshole youre gunna be treated like an asshole. You could own a lambo, if your a dick to everyone , forget respect. Just my 0.02. It looks like you got some good rules especially the no street racing one. However the $10 a month per member going to a designated person by vote seems to me like a bad idea, it porb be better if you had a draw. ANyways good luck.

B16: i didn't mean that's what the point of the organization is. i was just saying that another reason i joined is because it's a group of people with the same interest. the group itself just received the permission to use the garage, a big step, and we are also negotiating with 2 possible sponsors. you have to remember this group was started about one month ago and is still getting off the ground. i agree that you need function otherwise its pointless, but i believe this one is gonna definitely have purpose.

markpa: I thought about that too. Some people may feel that we choose to play favorites but everyone has agreed with the idea so far. It's in the handout we give to potential members, so if they join they're probably cool with it. We decided to elect members because some people just need things more than others. For example, the first collection will probably go to dropping that sky-high contour :o

I think its cool. If I had a chance to join I probably would. Especially since there are so few modders around here. The garage access is the biggest + IMO. The cars in the group look nice I think if they're not dicks then you got urself in a nice group. Club is overstating it tho. When you get 20+ members then maybe ur a club, not just 6 :)

anyways sounds nice but don't expect to get more respect being in a club. Just more support.

do you like being a member of a club? that's all that matters. as long as it helps you get more motivation to work on your ride then that alone is a +.

I think the idea is pretty cool! As for the whole "car club", well, that's a lil bit overused. Most of the guidelines you've listed are pretty reasonable, especially the $10 a month, that can come in handy as each member can equally alter their ride without beginning a brawl. Hey, and there's nothing wrong with being the only civic, you'll stand out the best! hahahaahah later.

clubs are cool....there's a celica club (new celicas) around here that has about 15-20 members...pretty cool if u ask me.....the whole reason for a club is to have people around u that can help u reach ur goal and haev connections that u don't...........obviously ur in the right place....but somethins clube can hold u back....and sometimes they're started for the wrong reasons....but i'm alll about it as long as they help me in my venture and i have a chance to help someone else:D

im not really down w/ the whole "crew" idea, i'd rather jus roll w/ my friens, an not need a little sticker showing we all are in the same group.

jus leave the link in ur profile next time...save urself the commotion...

that's the founder's car. he is ordering an R33 bumper next week!!! we gained 2 more members in the past week also. it's been a great week for the group, but we have also made a lot of changes to our rules and guidelines. hopefully we will continue to grow and not turn lame like all the other clubs around here...

well first off, no you aren't one of those two. but that's because i posted that before you got evaluated (so it has nothing to do with your status).

yeah sorry bout not calling you back. i left your paperwork at school friday. i had to take your application and pics of your car to school so that 3 of our members could evaluate it. i remember the final vote though if you want me to tell you. however i dont have your phone # (since thats on the form). the actual paper has specifics on each persons votes if you want to wait for that. whatever you wanna do, just call my cell or post on this thread.

well i didn't really write that rule. and i actually tried to get a saturn into the club (which got voted down.) they aren't targeting domestics either. the originators feel that cars like saturns/kias are low quality made cars. FORD however is a high name manufacturer, exempting the contour from this rule. i have no idea whether or not it would have gotten in had it not been an SVT and have the engine mods it has(i wouldnt have voted for it cuz then it would be a stock contour). and yes i have no engine mods but i got voted in due to the fact they consider my car "clean." we don't claim to all run awesome quarter mile times. as stated earlier, some of us are show and some of us prefer speed. and anyone who has been on AF (or PH!!) for a decent amount of time knows that it's not by choice i drive an automatic civic with no engine mods. it's the owner of the car's (my dad).

sparq, don't take what i say out of context. we charge 10$ to select someone to receive a mod. the money has nothing to do with the garage we use. the money we collect also helps to pay for the decal, NOPI tickets, and possibly... t-shirts (im kinda torn on that one).

word :o .

i DO understand wut u are saying, but i think that if ur going to start making "exceptions" cuz they're ur frien, then don't have the rule in the 1st place. make it so its "clean cars" only. don't jus discriminate against a certain car brand.

IMO u don't need to call urself a "crew" to do wut u guys are doing.

This whole thing makes no sense. No Saturns or Kia's and FORD is a " high name manufacturer ". You got in because your car is " clean ". So by those standards a Ford Tempo could be in your crew if it was clean? How is your 10 dollars gonna cover all that stuff? By mods do you mean seatbelt pads and shift nobs?

10$ Won't Buy Crap:

We collect 30$ when you join the club. That pays for decal, helps pay for your NOPI ticket (so you pay less later), and pays for your first month's payment. After that, we collect 10$ a month from EVERYONE. That means we are making roughly 110$ (now that we have more members) a month. Once we reach a desired amount of money, we vote to spend it on ONE CAR to get ONE MODIFICATION. Maybe I wasn't clear when I explained it earlier...

Saturn/Ford/Civic argument:

I used the argument that "Ford is a high manufacturer" because you targeted the ford SIMPLY because it was a ford. I was trying to explain that the ford exempted that rule. The contour got in because it is pretty fast, good looking, and has a dedicated member driving it. My civic got in because it's a good looking car, i'm serious about modifications, and im very dedicated to the group. So would a Ford Tempo get in? I'm not going to say it's impossible but probably not.

Now I don't think this is a contradiction from anything I've said before. Just because it's a Ford doesn't mean it's not a POS. That rule can cause your rejection but it doesn't guarentee your membership. Honda is a prestigious organization but that doesn't mean we'll let a 84 stock accord in just because it's a honda.

Look, I can't really tell you why or why not any of the cars got in or will get in. All I can say is that it's a vote. If you get 2/3 of the group's vote your in. It's totally subjective...

here's a list of cars that are currently in, all have various range of customization:

Nissan 240SX
Honda Prelude
Ford Contour SVT
Mazda MX-6 (sold today, looking into an Acura CL)
3 Honda Civics (all 6th gen)
Ford Focus
BMW i38 (i'm not sure if i got that model right)

We've denied three cars:

Saturn (i dont know the model name)
Honda Civic (5th gen)
Toyota Celica GT-S

Prospects (possible members):
Integra GS-R
RSX Type-S
7th gen Civic

prolly cause they are ugly as hell :)

dont knock saturns dude! i saw a SWEET gold 4 door saturn, it had SWEET yellow wiper blades, and awesome graphics on the windshield that said "EASTSIDE RYDEZ" and he had some chrome rims!!! omg it was SO awesome. i would be afraid to leave it parked there alone in the parking lot.

yes, i really did see a riced out 4dr saturn, and yes im being sarcastic

ROFL!!!!

We denied the GT-S Celica because it only had a TRD body kit and TRD exhaust. And the guy didn't want to do anything else to it because it would void the warranty (and he also didn't have a job). It's a nice car, but I could go to the Toyota dealership and get the exact same car...
