sus or body?somalizard 11-02-2001, 04:30 AM Suspension or body lift? pro's and con's anyone? and should I do it myself or have a pro install it, if i do it myself what am i getting into? tools and what not, on top of that, what else am i looking at past the lift that i would need to install to make it a safe job (skid plates and what have you) also, can anyone recommend any certain company's for sus or body lifts? i'm not looking to seriously get into this and make an invincible X here, but i am looking to be able to clear some terrain without a problem, sorry this sounds like an idiot question but i'm used to muscle and import cars, four wheelin' is new to me, thanks -somalizard Maddog 11-02-2001, 08:34 AM As far as the suspension or body lift choice, I'd definelty recommend the suspension lift. Your suspension lift choices are fairly limited. Check out Spencer Low Racing (www.spencerlowracing.com) or Automotive Customizers (www.4x4parts.com). Hopefully you aren't expecting an outrageous lift. The suspension lifts on the market right now for the X are all 3". Personally, I'd spend your money on a tire upgrade first to ditch the stock rubber in favor of an AT or MT tire, depending on your needs. You can run 32" tires by tweaking your torsion bars, and trimming a bit of plastic. If money isn't an option, go with the suspension lift. However, if you're like most of us here, you'll go for the tires first then a lift. Finally, for general Nissan 4x4 mods (sliders, skids, bumpers, etc) check out EOE. (http://www.Extreme4x4Parts.com/) FSRBIKER runs this company and is a member on this board. Welcome to the board, hope this clears up a few of your questions. DOG VaderX 11-02-2001, 10:21 AM You can also get a suspension lift, rock sliders and some other items at www.calmini.com somalizard 11-02-2001, 10:49 AM I can't go for bigger tires right now, I already put a different set of wheels on it (15 x 7.5 black rockcrawlers) and the backspacing was different than the stock wheels, so i already had to ditch the front mud flaps and trim alot of plastic to get them to fit, and i've been told the biggest tire i can stick on these wheels is a 31, and to do so i'd need a lift, other recommendations though? also i've seen alot of exhaust packages out there but i'm really looking for a dual exhaust setup, i'm trying to find a prefab one but honestly am i just going to have to make this setup myself? but as the other exhausts go, which one do you guys favor? why? what kind of a sound am i going to get out of it? (ihave the v6) once again thanks, also should i go with a pro install or should i install all this myself, i talked to a shop once and they said it took them 7 hours to do a body lift on an xterra because it was so complicated, and i'm not really into screwing up my ride permanatly, thanks again guys -somalizard rrdstarr 11-02-2001, 12:29 PM Rock Crawlers are the wheels I first purchased too! I had nothing but headaches because the backspacing/offsett was wrong! I went and got a set of stock XE alloys and haven't had a problem since! Goliath the X 11-02-2001, 05:01 PM I run the rockcrawlers with 31x10.50 M/T. Because of the rockcrawlers I can't go to a 32" tire. I've cranked my t-bars and added AALs and don't have any rubbing problems. I did cut quite a bit of plastic off the front bumper before going to the ARB. One day if the distant future, I would like to run 31" BFG A/Ts on the rock crawler and get a set of stock steal wheels for a set of 33x10.5 M/T. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
