Mine is a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona. Looks good, Hemi is a beast, and first stock car to break 200mph on a closed course.

Ferrari 250 series is my favorite, but I also love the typical american classics...stingrays, AC cobras, shelby Cobras, and 67-69 Camaros/Firebirds. I'm not too into classics, but those are my favorites.

GTO-TT/Chev57
03-16-2001, 03:02 AM
My favorite is the 57 Chev. Like the 67-69 Camaro, Dogde Charger, Hemi are good horsepower engines.
Early Corvette's.

GTO-TT/Chev57,
$540 sounds pretty big... how fast were you speeding??? :)
Also, you mean Mitsubishi GTO, right? Just want to clear it up...

GTO-TT/Chev57
03-17-2001, 12:59 PM
igor@af, Yes the GTO is Mitsubishi, most of the cars here
are from Japan. In the US I think they are called 3000GT
VR4. I was 55kph over that was 2 years ago. Do that now and you start walking to work. That was in the 56
pickup testing the blower, How do you make them noisey can't hear that nice blower niose, Thanks.

1967 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT 500 with 428 engine!

TheMan5952
03-19-2001, 07:51 PM
I thought it was the 427 CobraJet or 427 Super CobraJet in the GT500? I only driven a 69 GT350, that was pretty quick.

Lizard King
03-20-2001, 04:37 PM
GT500 was mostly available with the 428. Some 427 powered cars were made.

I like all classics really, but classic American cars are my main interest. Everything from V16 Cadillacs, finned 50s boats, musclecars, everything.:bandit:

TheMan5952, You will love owning and driving a classic
The feel and the sound and looks, most moden cars lookalike. With Classic's at lest you can tell what they are and what year they are and the value doesn't drop
like new ones.

There were also 429 Cobra Jet available for the GT 500 in '69:smoker2:

Yea, I like driving classic cars. My dad has a 1978 Dodge Tradesman 200. With a Big Block 400 Torqueflite 727 3 speed auto. a Dana 44 Limited Slip. Chin SPoiler, 2 Moonroofs, Rear: LT295/65 R15 and the fronts are LT265/70 R15, Chin Spoiler, Lund Windsheild Visor. Custom Interior.

It's nice, I like it, feels good to have power when I want it.

Favorite classic car:
Mercedes SL300 Gullwing.

Gullwing doors are one of the features that automatically make a car cool. If you're keeping score, I have also said the any car with the engine behind the driver is automatically cool.

Therefore the DeLorean is really cool! :D

enzo@af

Yes, while they seem to be rather rare, they do qualify for my list of features that make a car automatically cool.

Lets recap, in no particular order:

Scissor Doors
Gullwing Doors
Suicide Doors
Hard-Top Convertibles
Mid- or Rear-Engine Drivetrains

Hmmm... what else...? ;)

I'm a big fan of the old Chevy Nomads, especially the '56. You can do so much to those things to make them look good. I think the nicest one I've seen was made by Titus, that guy on the show, Titus. I saw a short clip of it on some car show on saturday afternoon, and it looked real nice.

my love affair with classics started young.
Family friends had a GTO, uncle had/has a classic porsche (and a few classic Triumph motorcycles, but that's another story)

In high school, I got to drive the '64 Cadillac Coupe DeVille my grandma bought new from the dealer.
That 429 could move that big boat like you wouldn't believe.
Feels like your driving the living room couch.
And plenty of room in the back for extracurricular activities.

(still got the car in the driveway, but it gets less attention now because....)

A couple years ago I bought a 55 Ford TBird.
The first of the birds, and in my opinion, the best looking. Got it from a family friend who gave me a great deal. I am the second owner (unless you count his dad, then I'm 3rd)
This car is great. Not super fast, I think it was rated at 245hp stock.(?) Not too bad for a two-seater.
I'm sure I get more out of it with my 57 intake, Mallory distributor, and Holley 4160.

Soon I'll have even more hp when I get my McCulloch (precursor to Paxton) blower installed.

Hey, GTO, what kind of blower you got in your truck? How much boost?

GTO-TT/Chev57
06-08-2001, 02:20 PM
Hi, Got a 6/71 only run 5psi still a little high in the compression, on a hot day under load a little pinking. Waiting for the 98ron petrol to come down south that will make it better. The 55-57 T Bird are a great classic. Hope you have lower compression for your blower it's better to run lower compression and higher boost. I have been to lazy to put the lower compression heads on.

dre
06-08-2001, 04:00 PM
oh jesus, you got a real blower!
one of them big ol' hood scoop deals.
sweet. that' one chevy I don't want to see pull up next to me at a stop light.

the blower I got is rated at 5 or 6 psi.
it's the vs57... wild WWII technology.
it's body looks similar to i think paxton sn96 (or something)

my heads are 8.5:1, guys tell me that's about the limit. I'm sure i'll find out...eventually.

take care

for anyone interested, check out www.vs57.com (http://www.vs57.com) for too much info about these old superchargers.

GTO-TT/Chev57
06-08-2001, 04:23 PM
Hi, The truck has lots of room in there, got the blower in without cutting the hood so she is a surprise pack at the lights. 8.5 is a great ratio for a blower. The vs57 looks good, will suit a classic car.

SunTzuSays
06-08-2001, 04:30 PM
I have to agree with those Charger fans. A 69 loaded with a 383 just peeking up out of the hood has to be one of the most beautiful things in the world.

I guess it's hard to find a really good one.

dre
06-09-2001, 05:14 PM
thanks PrimeraMan,
she's my pride and joy.

If I didn't have the bird, I'd have the money to drop a DET in the g20. ( and probably enough time to get a doctorate in aqstrophysics.)

As for how many of these little birds are left, I was surprised how many are still around. There were about 45,000 made for the 55-57 model years. I'd say more than half are still around, and most of those in as good or better condition than mine.

Another interesting note, it's about as easy to find aftermarket (and original) parts for this car as it is to find aftermarket stuff for the G20.

That really is interesting to hear that.
Are there lots of place's who make new parts for them, or are they just rebuilding the old parts ?

primera man

One other thing....they do come in a hard top or soft top ?
Also do they come in a 4 door model, or am i thinking of somethink different ?
I remember seeing a T-Bird in the Auto Trader a while ago and I'm sure it was a 4 door similar to your one.

Lizard King
06-10-2001, 07:14 AM
The Thunderbird was never 4 door in the early years. It became a 4 seater in 1958. They had a snug fitting power top, detachable hard top, or both.

The first three years were the best - like Dre's. I don't like the 58-60 models as much but the 61-63 models are nice. I saw one the other day.

primera man-
I got both tops, but on the little bird, the hardtop is pulled off and stored, unlike the bigger ones where they fold back in the trunk automagically, like Lizard King was saying.
The soft top on mine does fold up behind the seat.

And Lizard king-
I'm with you, the little tbirds are the coolest, those mid ones were really weird lookin, and those 3rd generation ones are pretty cool.
I've heard that the batmobile from the 70s tv show was based off a 63 bird. anyone know?

I love my old Triumphs, something about the smoth 6s and the Nice easy lines. I just have to wait a few years Till I get my Maters, then get a real Job and can afford to restore one porperly.
(I tried doing it on a budget and failed).

GTO-TT/Chev57-
Dont hold your breath on the 98octane petrol. I dont personaly think its any better than the current 96. They just added more Tolulene and other crap, but didnt actualy improve the quality. My japanses Civic runs worse on the 98 than the 96, and Iv talked to a few people who have said simlar things about thier older cars.

My favorite classic car is the Bugatti Type 41, although my list of favorites would number in the hundreds and include Duesenbergs, Packards, pre-war MGs (and some post-war ones), Ford GT40, and probably atleast one model from each brand around the world.

It is correct that the Thunderbird was not offered as a four-door in the early days. Four-door T-birds first appeared in 1967 and stopped production four years later.

The Batmobile from the 1960s TV show was not based on a Corvette. It was on a Ford chassis and based on the styling of a Lincoln showcar of the 1950s (the name of the concept slips my mind at the moment).

Starts with the mighty Duesenberg J and similar - albeit lesser, through american pony & muscle cars, stylish '30s 3-window coupes (even Graham sharknose), on down to the 50s-60s full-size flabsters. Hey I'd even include Nash Metropolitan, descending fully to the Lightburn Zeta (make mine the Sports model). Just as long as they don't exhibit a toyota badge, dare to have some personality, and you can see some chrome.

Closest I've come is a brief sojourn with a stepdown Hudson ragtop, then 8 great years in a '65 Riviera GS; gorgeous styling in/out, rode beautifully and stone-reliable

As far as Muscle cars go, I am a Mopar guy. I would have trouble picking between a 69' Charger RT, 71' Cuda, and a 70' Challenger RT/SE. I guess it depends on the engine, I would be fine with one of these three; 426 Hemi, 440 Six Pack, or a 528 Hemi.

You absolutely CANNOT go wrong with any of the old Shelby Mustangs like the GT350's and GT500's, nor with the 427-powered Shelby Cobra. All Boss Mustangs. And, one of the greatest: the 1971 Chevelle SS 454LS6. Of course, I am a bit biased toward MY 1972 Ford Ranchero 500 powered by a self built classic 302...:finger:

He built it, but has never seen or driven it! He wants to sell it-$35,000 U.S. or best offer.
Someone will buy this truck and treasure it forever-it could be you.
One of the finest vehicles I have ever seen and driven! I wish he would keep it- I like driving it. It is the 9th vehicle he built, pictures of 7 of them are in the Don Garlit's Museum in Ocala,Florida.
I can attest to his work- I bought number 8-a 1969 Nova SS 427 called "BLINDMAN"S BLUFF 8"--- AWESOME every where I go.
BELIEVE IT !

Indeed man ! Modern cars do not have the character classics have.
I forgot to mention the muscle-cars ! AMC , Dodge , Ford , Pontiac ... man those were the days. Just maybe I buy one within a few months.
(I can't choose between a BMW 523i of 1994 a BMW 635CSi of 1979 and a Pontiac Firebird 170 of 1970.)

Forgot these as well:

Lotus Super Seven , Opel GT , Porsche 944 , Ford Capri , Alfa Romeo Montreal , Austin Healy 3000MK3 , Porsche 911

92 Plymouth acclaim 2.5 that has a top speed of 124?
Whatya gotta do- drop it off a mountain?

454 El Camino- tough car. I don't have one but
I have 4 cars, both big and small block Chevies. I'll take a 350 or 400 small block over a big block anytime. My 40 Ford Pickup with a 400 blown is compact, lightweight and got 566 hp-and a super nice running engine.
It runs so smooth that you forget it is fast.
The 69 Nova SS 427 is fast, I love it but it would run nice with just a 350, 383, 400 or 440 stroker small block.
The IROC Camaro 305 small block is downright quick for a stocker and knocks down great mileage.. people that ride in this think it's a 350.
73 Vette 350-sweet as can be, just as it is.
On the street, I pick a small block.
On the track, for brute power, it's got to be a big block...... just my opinion though!

Ooh, this one's a no brainer.

My favorite classic car is a 1969 Camaro Z28 with a DZ 302 (aka, a factory Z, not a clone!) and a Muncie 4-speed tranny. Preferably in Hugger Orange, but I'd take one in any color.

I also like the '69 Yenko Camaros. Actually, I like Camaros. Period. I'd love a shot at driving the "Crusher" Camaro that was one of Hot Rod magazine's project cars. That was one bad-ass ride.

Other favs include the '49 Mercury, '55 and '57 T-bird, C1, C2, and C3 Corvettes (especially the '63 split window C2), '64-'72 Chevelles, '67 and '69 Camaros, '68-'74 Chargers, '70-'73 'Cudas, and most any Mustang from '64 1/2 to '73. Can't leave out the Pontiac GTO or early '60's Impalas.

I'll go with 3 different countries on this one. For the U.S., I want a 65 Pontiac GTO with the 4 speed w/ Hurst shifter option and original Tri-power. For the UK, I'll go with whatever type of TVR my neighbor has. I see him cruisin in it all the time, it looks really smooth and has the nicest blue paint with silver trim. I like that car. For Japan, it would have to be a 72 Datsun Z. Those things just look mean! They're fast as hell too.

My favorites, wow there are so many but here goes, my favorite w/o a doubt is the 1969 L-88 Corvette. The 69 because unlike the previous models the 69 had the L-88 callout on the hood in addition to the 427 badge. Next is the 1969 COPO Camaro, it has to be Hugger Orange. Last, is the 1965 Shelby GT350, I just love they way they look.

I was under the impression that classic cars were cars that were made prior to 1962 or something like that. but since anything seems to go here, I say one of my favorite classic cars has got to be a 1953 studebaker, now if a later supercharegd 289 STude engine will fit under the hood that would be the shit. I like Muscle cars too but I really like all of them in their own way. I am currently on the lookout for a 1965 riviera, the headlights do it for me. I Own a 68 camaro and a 71 Chevy pickup and i usually lean torwards GM but anything made between 1967 and 1971 is prety cool in my book.

I guess I prefer the 70 because I like those tower fin taillights. The fronts ARE quite similar. Any Deville. 472 V8, talk about a powerful highway cruiser! Horsepower started to go down starting with the 71 and they started to get even bigger, much uglier, and slower.

That includes anything that I read about in high school, which means we could discuss Cordobas, T-Birds from the late '70s, or, my favorite from that time, the 2 door Caprice from '77 to '79. After the '74 to '76 models, it was a breath of fresh air.

I have a hard time defining anything as a favorite. I admit to fairly broad tastes, though, when we get to this, that first choice is usually American. I liked GM cars from the 60's but not the GTOs and such. Two of my favorites would be the Impala SS from '67 and '68, and the Corvair Corsa.

Anything over 25 years old here can be licensed as an antique. I've seen antique plates on a '81 Citation. The same would apply to any car I read about in high school.

I'd be hard pressed to reduce it to one favorite, but two that come to mind are the Impala SS of '67 and '68, and the Corvairs of that time, especially the Corsa.

1967 Chevrolet Impala SS 427

Only 2124 SS Impalas were equipped with the 427 in 67

I love the lines of the car, they just do something for me that no other car can...

Anyone can make a Mustang, Camaro, or Vette go fast with little to no trouble.

Make a 4000+ land barge go fast and look good doing it? Now you have my attention!

I really have no favorite, I like them all, well that is the muscle cars, I could live without some of the others.

I guess as far as a favorite, that would have to be a 1967 L88 Clrvette, or a 1969 ZL1 Camaro, both are very awesome, and it's hard to say.

That's easy for me. 1970 buick Skylark GSX 455. A true monster and under-appreciated by many. I currently own a '71 Skylark Custom Sport Coupe, but I'm saving my pennies!

There were also 429 Cobra Jet available for the GT 500 in '69:smoker2:

The 67/68 Shelbys never came with a 429. biggest motors they had were the FE 428 CJs.

Some ,in 1967, came with 390s,due to 428 production problems.
so there ya have it...........the 1967 Shelby GT350& the 500.one, a small block, one a big block.:iceslolan

The LaSalle. Built by Cadillac from 1927 through 1940. Only car ever built in the USA to be discontinued because it was too successful. (It was out selling the Cadillac and it was embarrasing to the Board of Directors). They attempted to revive it in 1963. A beautiful prototype was made with the LaSalle name all over it. At the last minute, they dropped the idea and gave the design to Buick. Hence - the 1963 Rivera. I have two 1939 LaSalles. An Opera Coupe and a 4 Door Touring Sedan. Both cars have the Very Rare dual sidemounts.
